Some of the most beautiful beaches in the country are in and around Trinidad. Hiking, surfing, boating, and camping are only a few of the activities available in Trinidad. World-class fishing brings many visitors to the area.

BEACHES
In Trinidad

  • Indian Beach- the site of  the ancient Tsurai Indian village is just below the Memorial Light House
  • Trinidad State Beach- access this gorgeous beach from the parking lot at Trinidad Bay

South of Trinidad

  • Luffenholz Beach- on Scenic Drive. Spectacular scenery with seastacks, sea lions and Luffenholz Creek. A trail takes the visitor to a vantage point above the beach where the waves crash below.
  • Houda Point- on Scenic Drive. Watch the surfers and see the remains of an old lumber loading station
  • Moonstone- off of Scenic Drive. The Little River meets the sea beneath towering cliffs. Great beach for families

North of Trinidad

  • College Cove- hike down a gentle slope to a beautiful sheltered beach. A short hike above the beach reaches Elk’s Head with thundering waves and wind and breath-taking rugged scenery
  • Big Lagoon County Park – Big Lagoon is separated from the Pacific Ocean by a sand spit. The lagoon is calm and great for kayaking, canoeing and row boating. Campsites are available at the County Park.
  • Patrick’s Point State Park- look for agates on Agate Beach, visit Sumeg Village, a reconstruction of a Yurok Indian village. Campsites are available at the park.

HIKING
Follow the trail up Trinidad Head and watch the grey whales on their migration. Other trails take the hiker to ocean overlooks, through Redwood forests and along beaches. Trail maps are available at locations in Trinidad.

BOATING
A boat launch is available at Trinidad Pier for ocean fishing  boats. A free launch area is located near the pier on the beach for kayaks and small boats. A boat launch is also available for non-power boats at Big Lagoon.
